ONE SAFE PLACE
THE PRETTY UGLY MISSION
What should be beautiful, not pretty-ugly, is the taking of the innocence of young girls. The One Safe Security Team goes on a mission to stop the exploitation of mostly young Black, Hispanic, and Indigenous–Native girls. Girls are disappearing into sex trafficking rings through pretty ugly passageways. A whirlwind of predicaments and eruptions of immoral deeds entwine with the criminal-minded versus Psalms Black and his crew of the One Safe Place Security Team. They traverse state and international lines, as the sexual deviant hides in plain sight, often within the homes of the wealthy and influential.
Psalms Black is back with his team of Suzy Q, who is a warrior who will take anyone’s life if they ask for it. El`vis is a super handsome sculptured soul with killer blue eyes, with a fighting spirit of, I’ll give my life to save yours. Zelda, her Black and Native spirit, is a street fighter who can throw hands to beat any man or woman in embarrassing style. Velvet, almost a human computer at finding, locating, researching, and dispatching love or intel. Mintfurd, they call him Big Boy because he is 6’6 and 400 pounds of a bronze chiseled horse of a man whose intellect designs and creates ways to overcome obstacles to defeat lawfulness. The Newcomer, Garbo, is an expert in deception, undercover work, and marksmanship. The One Safe Security Team is a trained clandestine task force to change the abduction of girls that plays out in every city and on dusty back roads that cut through small towns. Once again, Author Alvin L.A. Horn brings forth themes of love, lust, and crime in the pursuit of making the world One Safe Place for the vulnerable, creating a suspenseful and action-packed atmosphere that keeps readers on edge.
The former secret service agent, Psalms Black, puts his version of social righteousness into practice, but often must challenge enemies with political ties and evil people loaded with money who will do whatever it takes to keep doing what they are doing, making it a duel to the death. Psalms Black exacts revenge and the stoppage of wrong by any means necessary. In his quest to heal the world, he grapples with his own need for healing after losing his lover–the woman who inspired him to believe he could achieve anything, but then the world changed, and he lost her. He is hurt; could his personal misjudgments of the heart in seeking love again harm his team, who are focused on stopping violent criminals who could expose them all and take their lives? This emotional depth invites readers to connect with Psalms Black's internal struggles and motivations.
The survival of Life, Love, Liberty, and the desire for contentment is complex when dark shadows of evil acts connect tributaries of organized crime that are harming the young and should be innocent. Psalms Black and his friends endeavor to remain on the right side of morality, even if it requires using pretty ugly ways to bring about One Safe Place.

IN THE VINEYARD I AM THE ONE HE DESIRES
Pastor Azreal Kenan has lived to teach us all that we make mistakes and to set an example that he is human and that we must always try to do better. He truly is a God-fearing man of God. Don’t most of the souls who sit in the pews want to present an image of being God-fearing? People who come through the church doors have inner struggles with lust-filled identities and addictions, yet put money in the offering plate. Some take cash out and never put any in. Even predators sit in the pews and bow their heads in prayer, hoping for healing or to find more prey.
Pastor Kenan preaches of redemption, but knows the history of church folk who have what the Bible calls, Concubines – side chicks, and male whores who should not "covet another man's wife" as in The Ten Commandments. The Pastor knows of women, like a Sister So-in-So, who has a man creeping in her back door at midnight. The Church should be a place where the conflicted come to worship, and Pastor Kenan is ordained not to judge but to lead to judgment with a repenting soul.
Pastor Azreal Kenan and his wife, First Lady Amira, had given up on having children by their mid-forties and had devoted their time and patience to the Church, leading those in need. Yet, those who come through the church doors sometimes put on a good-faith face of, "If loving you is wrong, I don't want to be right."
At Vineyard 2nd Baptist Church, secrets and lies surface from deceitful soul-stirring controversies that unravel in the public eye in inconceivable ways. Clearly, some have lost their way in the wilderness. When state prosecutors have handcuffs put on Pastor Kenan's church member, his humanity is shattered when he also finds out it's much more than criminality that will affect his Church family, in the present and future. It makes one shout, "Oh Lord, have mercy," when emotional, gut-wrenching moral dilemmas draw you into a story of faith tested. Pastor Kenan contemplates placing his cupped hand over the nose and mouth of someone, not for a baptism for life or death.
Whispers and judgment, and what the “hell,” IN THE VINEYARD I AM THE ONE HE DESIRES, is a mesmerizing tale of faith, sexy romance, and mystery filled with redemption stories of forgiveness and renewal.
Pastor Kenan must protect the innocent from being tainted by past wrongdoing. And what do willful sinners deserve...? Inside the walls of Vineyard 2nd Baptist Church, treacherous lies, the past challenges faith, and the power of redemption physically and spiritually.

Alvin L. A. Horn’s young adult novel speaks to the heart of urban youth's coming-of-age experiences. It is filled with adventure, wit, and moral contemplation as it transports a young teen to a world of wonder.
Marley time-travels and finds himself at humanity’s most challenging moral and ethical crossroads. Set in urban Seattle, the story follows young Black teens with multiple life options as they navigate cross-cultural relationships.
Marley is a star hooper and a good student. Like many middle schoolers, this combination makes him popular and highly regarded, but one day it puts him in the company of friends who make a poor choice. That choice impacts him and leads to a summer of maturity.
This book explores themes of peer pressure, friendship, identity, talent identification, the power of imagination, and leadership. It also examines the history of moral and ethical decision-making. As a lifelong educator, I encourage every student and adult to read this book.

The novel Journey to Love is a people’s history told through the eyes of a Black woman with a year to live. Blunile Rivers, or Blu, is 40 years old and has 2 years of medical school. She traveled the world and taught at universities. Now, with a brain tumor limiting her speech and soon her memory, the African and Black anthropology professor keeps a diary of her personal life, teaching history through her stories.
Serene May feels safe talking to Blu and sharing her past through her journal. Blu reads history within the love stories of her life and longs for that kind of love himself.
Hidden in her stories are surprises from her past, tying history to the present. Journey to Love entertains readers while allowing them to see and feel the emotions of those who lived through nearly 10 decades.

PLACES TO BE
Marley Barton Tingle has graduated from middle school and is starting high school, believing he will be a basketball star. He is a great kid, terrific on the court, and good in school. Marley has supportive parents, good friends, and although Alana Kona-Sparks is not his girlfriend yet, she is his best friend. However, Marley made a wrong choice when he went into the Dollar Station Store with his crew on the last day of school. Marley paid for his candy, but his friends shoplifted. He was not sure what they had done, but he ignored the feeling that something was wrong.
Marley learned he would never be allowed into the store again. That same day, Marley's mom downloaded his grades, showing he had almost failed history. Marley loves his classes, but sees no benefit in studying the past.
Marley is acting out of character. His parents put him on restriction for the whole summer, so all he could do was go to the library and read.
While using his one freedom, he meets an older woman librarian. She notices he reads only comic books and sports magazines. She tells him something dramatic she believes will change his life if he reads books of historical interest. She places the right books in his hands. They capture his attention, expand his imagination, and create unexplained parallels between what is real and what is not. The librarian shares a verbal mantra with Marley almost daily, and he becomes aware of it.
Places to Be is a journey for young adults and adults alike. It is filled with life lessons, mystery, suspense, and the transitions of coming of age. It is a captivating read for young people who love athletics or other activities and must learn to balance education and social life.
